That cleanliness is next to Godliness is mostly an example and signs of good citizenship. It has also been said many times that sanitation is a shared responsibility of citizenship.
The scene in the centre of Accra, most especially, Kwame Nkrumah Circle in the Ghanaian capital, shows a very busy trafficking that holds almost everything carrying goods and services to the other regions of the country.
We have institutions whose role was to ensure that cleanliness is maintained.
Recently, Saturday, 25th November this year to be precise, ZongoNews.com Team in Accra surveyed the capital city of Accra and came to the unfortunate realization that the centre of the city, namely Kwame Nkrumah Circle could be likened to a huge refuse dump.
It emerged that there was lack of information to the general public about the spread of diseases caused by poor sanitation systems across the country. The authorities seems not to be aware of the fact that the sanitation problem in Accra and other major cities was the cause of the growing number of diseases – malaria happens to be the number one health problem all over Ghana, most especially, the capital, Accra.
ZongoNews.com calls on the sanitation authorities in Accra to urgently attend to the deteriorating waste problem at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
